How CFO Pal uses AI

CFO Pal uses artificial intelligence to explain your numbers. It does not use it to produce them.

The AI never does the maths.

Every figure in your reports, forecasts, budgets and board packs is calculated by CFO Pal's own deterministic engine from your accounting data. The AI is given those completed figures and asked to explain them. It cannot invent a number, because it never has the opportunity to calculate one.

We test this. We run an evaluation harness against the AI touchpoints that checks every monetary figure in an AI output against the pre-computed data it was given, and fails if a number appears that we did not calculate. The harness is run by our engineers before a change goes out; it is not yet wired into an automated gate that blocks a release on its own.

We do not train models on your data.

Your financial data is never used to train, fine-tune or improve any artificial intelligence model, by us or by any provider we work with. Our agreements with AI providers prohibit it, and we do not permit data retention for training purposes. This also reflects our obligations to the accounting platforms we integrate with.

What is sent, and where.

When you use an AI feature, the relevant pre-computed figures and context are sent to Anthropic's Claude API, processed and returned.

Anthropic retains inputs and outputs for a limited period for abuse monitoring, currently up to 30 days, after which they are deleted. They are not used to train any model at any point. Anthropic holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO/IEC 42001 certification.

AI output is business guidance, not regulated advice.

Commentary and insights generated by CFO Pal are practical business guidance derived from your synced accounting data, with figures cross-checked against your accounting platform's own totals where your platform reports them. CFO Pal does not provide regulated financial advice (investments, pensions, insurance) or formal accounting or tax opinions; take professional advice for those matters before acting.

You stay in control.

AI-generated commentary is central to how CFO Pal works, so it cannot currently be switched off separately from the rest of the Service. If your firm or your policy requires AI features to be restricted for particular clients, email privacy@cfopal.co.uk before onboarding and we will tell you honestly what is and is not possible today.
